Since 1984, the Dorothea von Stetten Art Award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros, has been presented at the Kunstmuseum Bonn every two years. While in the past the award was exclusively granted to artists living in Germany, in 2014, a focus was put on the Czech Republic and thus, for the first time, on the art scene of one of Germany’s neighbouring countries. After the Netherlands and Denmark, the 2020 award is now aimed at young artists from Switzerland who are still at the beginning of their careers and have not yet received international recognition.
Eight Swiss art experts were asked to nominate one artist each for the competition. From this selection, a jury will choose three finalists who will then present their works in a group exhibition at the Kunstmuseum. On the day of the opening, the jury will select the actual prize winner based on the works presented. This year’s finalists are Marie Matusz, Jan Vorisek and Hannah Weinberger.
